Artist Statement

I don’t necessarily consider myself an artist or a creative person. I don’t paint, draw, write creatively, use photo shop or illustrator regularly or make films. I admire and appreciate people who are artists and can make creative work. I feel like my mind doesn't work in an artistic way. I am thoroughly entertained by other people’s creative works in art, film and television; specifically film and television. Even though I don't create and produce my own art I appreciate the works of others so much so that I would love to work with them in my career. My ultimate career goal is to be a publicity or development executive at a major television or movie studio. I have more of a business mind so I would love to use my knowledge of business and public relations and mix that with my love for film and television and make a fulfilling career out of it.

Although I don't consider myself an artist I am 100% open to learning and absorbing everything that there is to learn about art and film in Media 160. I know very little about how to shoot a film so I would love to learn at least the very basics. I figure if I want to work on the business side of television and film I should have general knowledge on everything that goes into making a film or show that I am developing and promoting. Hopefully the skills and knowledge I garner from Media 160 will give me an upper hand when I set out in my career.

At the end of the semester I plan to post a closing blog entry on what artistic and filmic skills and knowledge I have gained. Maybe by the end of the semester I will finally consider myself an artist.

Stay tuned!
